ABOUT

Welcome. I'm so glad you're here!

Hi! I'm Whitney Buettner and I am the face behind Grace & Grit Construction.

I began my trades career on a total whim! I went to college and realized sitting at a journalist's desk wasn't for me. I was hired on as a landscape labourer in the summer of 2013 to create beautiful outdoor spaces for clients in the Lakeland area north of Prince Albert, SK. I never looked back.

Born on Treaty 10 lands and raised on the value of hard work on the farm, working outside with my hands as a career feels like home.

After picking up evening and weekend side jobs while working with an industrial concrete formwork company, I told my boss "I'd be right back," after accepting a kitchen project during a slower season of work. Funny story: I do NOT go back. The email inquiries just kept pouring in! I truly did not think this business would lead me here today, successfully tackling home additions and large scale renovations in only a couple of years. After meeting and connecting with other business owners in Saskatoon, I really kick myself in the butt for not starting sooner! My previous trades experience working with 50+ team members on site and my time spent in the office coordinating multiple $35 million dollar projects from a computer is education I am super grateful for. All of those skills are brought into my jobs today.

My greatest passion is not only bringing ideas to life, but to educate you, the home owner, on how to protect the biggest investment of your life. When I am not on the tools you will find me outdoors - all year round -  hiking, biking, travelling, camping, Harley cruisin, jumping out of airplanes, fishing, or hanging on for dear life on my sled in the mountains. Professionally, I am a casual instructor with the Women in Trades & Technology program at Sask Polytech, a volunteer with the Jill of All Trades Day and have a new goal to become a public keynote speaker for women in trades in some way, shape or form.

My Vision, My Intention is Simple.

My vision as an Indigenous woman in trades, housing and trades advocate and business owner in Saskatchewan, is to continue building trust and relationships in this industry and with my clients by doing the right thing. Renovations are very stressful and can go wrong in a hurry. I hear you. I am here as an experienced, respected, and safety oriented Journeyman Carpenter to solve your problems. Construction lingo is difficult. I get it. My goal is to provide you with an education-first renovation experience in a way that you understand what we are doing, and how you can maintain your home long after we're gone. No matter how complex or unique your project, I will tackle it with Grace & Grit.

I strive each day to become better as a human, as a business owner, as an Indigenous representation to women in trades. I come prepared with up-to-date business operating licensing, commercial liability insurance, WCB coverage for me and my team, and safety training certificates kept valid for our health & peace of mind.

If you have always wanted to live in your dream kitchen or bath and you're unsure of where to even begin, send me a message. I am here to answer any questions or address any fear you may have about hiring a complete stranger (me) off the internet!
